Day Tours Full Day Wine Tour Details: A comprehensive Cape Winelands tour that includes wine tasting in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek at 3-4 wine estates selected on merit by your tour guide. Includes wine tastings at two wine estates recommended by your tour guide. Cost: R400.00 per person PRIVATE: rate on request Full Day Chocolate, Olive, Cheese & Wine Tour The Cape Winelands is South Africa's most indulgent culinary region. Enjoy a variety of tastings of the Winelands specialties. Taste wine and chocolates in Stellenbosch. Taste olives, olive oil and wine in the Banhoek Valley (between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek). And finish off with a cheese and wine tasting in Paarl. Cost: R785.00 per person (includes tastings at 3 wine estates selected by tour guide and excludes lunch and purchases) Brandy Tour This can be done as self-drive tour to explore the world-famous brandy products of Western Cape Winelands. The Cape Winelands brandy route stretches from Stellenbosch, through Paarl and Franschhoek to the Breede River Valley town of Worcester. Three of the attractions on the Brandy route can be found in the vicinity of Stellenbosch - just down the road from Summerwood Guest House. These are the Van Ryn Brandy cellar, the Oude Molen Brandy Museum and Backsberg Estate. Township Tour To get a complete view of South Africa's people and culture, we recommend one of the township tours that visit Khayelitsha and surrounding townships including Langa, South Africa's oldest township. A guided tour is recommended because many guides have built up relationships with the township residents and often are residents themselves, able to take you to the most interesting places. Just ask one of your Summerwood hosts to book your township tour with one of their regular tour guides! Bread Making in the Winelands Visit the Moreson Wine farm for a unique bread-making experience at their aptly named Bread & Wine restaurant! This is a really fun day which of course involves some unofficial wine tasting throughout! On arrival you will receive your very own apron, recipe book and ingredients. With a bit of guidance you will make 4 different types of dough which you will get to fill, twist and shape into different breads. While your breads are baking you will be sent off the official wine tasting of the day which will be followed by lunch accompanied by your very own baked bread! Cost: R700.00 (Bread-making workshops only run once a month so we will have to check if one coincides with your stay at Summerwood Guest House) Cape Winelands Ballooning NB! - Only runs between November and April Winelands Ballooning offers a unique adventure in the beautiful area of the Boland, about an hours drive from Cape Town. Hot-air balloon flights take place in the scenic Berg River Valley, outside of Paarl in the direction to Malmesbury. Enjoy the wonderful feeling of freedom at you float through the sky. The retrieve vehicle will follow on the ground and after approximately an hour's flight, they will meet you at the landing. The balloon is then packed onto a trailer and you return to the Grande Roche Hotel where you can contemplate the experience over a "Champagne" breakfast. Cost: R2,850.00 (Balloon takes maximum of 5 passengers of average weight) Horse riding at Spier Wine Estate Explore the beautiful Cape Winelands vineyards and mountains from horseback! Spier Horse Trail Rides has spectacular outrides through Spier's vineyards, pony rides for children, carriage tours, beginners riding lessons, advanced lessons, Equestrian seminars and livery. Wine tasting on horseback (4 hours) Take a scenic ride through vineyards, forests and over mountains, stopping at the Rickety Bridge Winery and Mont Rochelle before returning to the stables. The total riding time is around 2 hours and 30 minutes with 30-45 minute stops at each wine estate. Quad Bike Rides QuadRides highly value eco-tourism and focus on the safe and responsible use of quad bikes, while still presenting tours that will give you an adrenaline rushing & unforgettable experience. Quad Rides make use of fully automatic Rustler 260cc quad bikes, which can easy accommodate two adults at a time. There is a variety of tours on offer including an Obstacle Course Tour, Vineyard Educational Tour, Grape Harvesting Tour, Mountain Tour , Sundowner Tour and a Night Ride Tour. Hiking trails These are two hiking trails that we recommend which are close to Summerwood Guest House in the Stellenbosch mountains. Both trails can be done on your own or with a guide. The Vineyard Hiking Trail The Devon Valley is particularly beautiful and contributes to making this one of South Africa's most scenic hiking trails that meanders through valleys and over vineyard slopes. Jonkershoek Nature Reserve This scenic reserve offers various trails for both hikers and mountain bikers. Hike, relax at the coffee shop, or even do some fly fishing. Open throughout the year and permits are issued from 07:30 - 17:00 at the gate. 2010 Cape Winelands Festivals & Events The Cape Winelands has a history of festivities! Throughout the year there is a host of food festivals, wine shows, exhibitions, arts & culture shows and environmental celebrations.
